You could probably upgrade the mem to 128MB and then upgrade to 7.0 or 7.1. At that point, you could buy a new license to allow for failover and then purchase an interface module to give you 4 more interfaces for your pix. After all is said and done, you might be spending the same amount of money if you just bought a new PIX 515E, not sure on the price. Hope this helps.

Hi,
Your PIX515 has 32MB RAM and 16MB Flash (Flash strata @ base 0x300 ) and 2 NICs.
With this, you can upgrade/add:
1. OS - you can run PIX 6.3, with Restricted (R) license. UnRestricted (UR) need additional license.
2. For hardware, you can add one more NIC (10/100 Fast Ethernet) card to host another segment.
PIX-1FE : PIX single-port 10/100 Fast Ethernet interface card

1. how did you say it is having 16 mb flash...its not shown anywher in the show version.
2. Is Pix 515 different from Pix 515R?
(it shows only pix 515 on the show version)

1. 16MB of flash was the default for the 515.
2. With the older 515s, a special cable and chasis was needed for redundancy. Unfortunately, statefull failover (replication of state info such as web and tunnel, etc. to the redundant firewall) is not a possibility. The 515R was the designation for the specail chassis needed for redundancy.
Hope this helps.
