Upgradeabilty of old PIXen

We're thinking of getting an old PIX off of eBay and upgrading it for our lab. We found an old PIX "classic", but we're not sure it will accept a recent copy of PIX OS. Will it be possible to just throw a new PIX flash card and some more RAM to upgrade? Will we even need a new flash card?

The pix classic is the pix 10000, IIRC.

Frankenpix are peoples attempts to build a 520 with certain components (a specific intel brand motherboard) and a flash card. If you only have the 2MB flash card, the last OS you can run is 5.1, IIRC, maybe 5.2.

Re: Upgradeabilty of old PIXen

The only old pix worth buying is a 520, but make sure it has the 16 MB flash card. That is the only "old" pix that can run current pix os, provided it has the 16MB flash card. Any model that is not a 501, 506(e) 515(e) 525 or 535 is a paperweight.

Couldn't I throw a new flash card in the "classic" (ala frankenpix) and build a current pix?
