Using enhanced object tracking with static ip route
We have a site that uses VPN for primary connectivity and ISDN as a backup. The primary VPN router runs HSRP with the backup ISDN router but does not track because it is unreliable for determining a failure (the far end could be down but the link still up). EIGRP is run over the VPN link to the main data center and when EIGRP goes down there is a floating static route that points to the backup router, which causes the dial-on-demand to kick in. We would like to use Enhanced Object tracking to track on the route instead and would ideally like to use static routes and not run a dynamic protocol over the VPN. The question is whether a static route would ever trigger a tracking event if a device in the range of the static was unreachable.
