VMS IDS MC - error updating sensor software

Hi, We are evaluating/testing VMS IDS MC and Security Monitor.

We ran into a problem when trying to update the sensor software.

From the IDS MC Admin > System Configuration > Update Network IDS Signatures:

After selecting to apply one of the following update files (I tried all)

IDSSk9-sp-3.0-5-S17.bin

IDSSk9-sp-3.1-2-S23.bin

IDSSk9-sp-3.1-3-S31.bin

IDS-sig-3.1-3-S40.bin

I got the following error message (before I have a chance to select the sensor):

"object update failed. An unexpected exception occurred while validating the

contents of the signature update package. Detail = error in opening zip file"

Same message in the subsystem report for Java System Services.

Our software version is follows:

Common Services 1.0

IDS MC 1.0

Security Monitor 1.0

JRE 1.2.2 (V2.1)

Any idea/suggestion how to resolve this. Thanks.

Hi TSUI

You need to have .zip files in the */updates directory of IDS MC/Sec Mon. But you have copied the *.bin files that is not supported with IDS MC/Sec Mon. The *.bin files are for Unix Director.

You can get *.zip files from the following location

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/mgmt-ctr-ids

which is used to updated the sensor from IDS MC/Sec Mon .

Hi Ramesh, thanks very much for the info and link.

Hi, If I update the sensor signatures on the IDS MC, do I have to update on the security monitor MC as well? thanks in advance.

Only if you have the security monitor on a different server.

Thanks,
