At a remote office connecting via VPN, I am unable to scan with a HP 9100c Digital Sender (network scanner). Local LAN access has been installed and is working as described at this link:

Everything else appears to be functional. I can print and see the other computer on the LAN.
The scanner needs to be able to talk to the HP software installed on the client computer. When attempting to scan, the scanner reports that it can't find the computer.
If I close the VPN client software then I am able to scan.
Is there a way to allow the scanner to talk to the computer while VPN is connected?
