VPN and remote printer

Hi,

I have a PC with a local printer, and a Cisco client VPN.

I establish the connection through the client VPN to my office. Then i use Dameware to view to remote PC.

Then i want to install the printer to my local PC.

Solution 1 :

On my PC i have share my printer with share name : PRINTER1

On the remote PC (after the VPN connection is establish) i try to connect my printer (\\PC1\PRINTER1) where PC1 is my local PC (VPN client).

The connection cannot establish.

i try \\192.168.100.1\PRINTER1, where 192.168.100.1 is the address allocate by the router to my VPN Client.

The connection cannot establish.

Solution 2 :

I have put a network card to my local PC and Jetdirect to my printer.

I try \\192.168.100.2\PRINTER1, where 192.168.100.2 is the printer IP address

Cannot establish connection.

Does anyone know the correct VPN design for printing like this scenario

Thanks for your help

Re: VPN and remote printer

Are you using IPSEC? Are you connecting through a secure or split tunnel? If you are connecting through a secure tunnel than you will not be able to access printers that reside on the network. This is because the IPSEC and Secure tunnel do not allow connections outside of the secure tunnel.
