The VPN Client 3.1 is causing a few problems with many PC's at our company. When the new client detects a previous client it tries to uninstall it, but in the process it doesn't complete the uninstall. This causes the old client not to work and also doesn't allow the new client to be install nor any previous versions. The error message is "Failed to locate the installation path for the application." I have only seen this on Win2k machines. For now, these users are having to use the Microsoft client since all versions of the Cisco client can not be installed and I have pulled 3.1 from our Intranet site so nobody else can encounter these errors.
Does anyone have any comments or solutions for this?
This is just a guess, but are you upgrading from a 2.5.x version of the client? I think the previous version is not completely uninstalled. You will have to remove the Cisco Systems directory under Program Files as well as removing the entries in the registry for Cisco Systems. Make sure of course that there is not other cisco software installed before doing this..
I had the some problem. I deleted all cisco directories, and as well as registry entries. I still CAN'T install VPN client. The error message "Failed to locate the installation path for the application".
Now I can't install nor remove. please help if anyone has ideas.
My problem was that I am using a preconfigured client and then the predefined installation directory was changed to a different location for the new client. To fix this problem, I went into the registry and did a find on VPN. I delete everything that was associated with the Cisco client. Next, I uninstalled the deterministic network enhancer in Network properties. I also deleted the directory that was created for the client. I then rebooted and it installed the new client fine. If you have a lot of users that share the same configuration, change the predefined installation path back to the original! The first time I try this it didn't work b/c I missed some things in the registry. Good Luck
