trying to install cisco vpn client 4.8 on windows xp mce (2005) with SP2, I get
half way through the install and I get:
Error 1304 Error writing to file:
C\Windows\system32\vsdatant.sys, Verify that you have access to that
I tried re-setting the whole system32 folder to normal, still get the
tried installing the vpn client via the msi file, still get the error.
tried running the install as administrator, still get the error
tried logging in as administrator (with password) and installing from there,
still get the error.
After a bit more investigating I discovered that my windows XP will not allow the creation of a file called vsdatant.sys in the system32 folder. As a test I created a text file and saved it as vsdatant.txt in the system32 folder. I then renamed the file to vsdatant.sys but a second later the file suddenly disappeared. I don't have any security software on my pc, I've never tried any security software except the windows firewall in the control panel and I've set it both on and off. So something in xp is blocking the creation of this file but I'm stumped. Thanks for any help.
Are you running McAfee or some other AV/Firewall? It must be blocking the creation of files in system32 directory. I know McAfee does it. (McAfee Console >> Access Protection Properties >> File,Share and Folder Protection)
Perhaps you had some checkpoint/zonealarm software on your machine earlier. They also use the same file. Maybe that is causing the conflict? Try to enable hidden files view and hidden OS files view and check if this file pre-exists.
