I am trying to upgrade the activation key on our PIX 515 Version 6.0. Documentation is confusing, do I need to tftp new image, or can I preserve present configuration (cut and paste)? If I need to reinstall image , how and where would I get the new image?
Thanks

You should be able to keep your current config intact. However, you need to get the activation code from a Cisco representative anyways. You can't just go and "find" one on the net or by browsing Cisco's website. Call TAC or start a case online

I already have the new key, just getting it into the PIX is the problem. As I understand, I have to copy the current pixnnn.bin file to the tftp server and then back from tftp. During the install I will be prompted for the new key. Is that correct? Thanks a lot.

Hi,
In fact to be able to enter a new activation key, you need to install a new image (or even the same image) from the monitor mode. You will then be prompted to install a new Activation Key just after the upload...

Marc.
