VPN: PIX vs. Router

Dear Gentleman

I have a VPN network (20 remote offices) using routers with IPSec & FW IOS. I have 20 PIX 515 and 1 535 working only as firewall . What is the best solution?

1.Run the VPN's between the PIX

2.Run the VPN's on the routers and leave the PIX's only as a firewall.

I would apretiate some advice.

I would guess with 20 remotes sites, the routers are fairly small. That said, they are probably working very hard routing and firewalling and tunneling the VPN. I’d suggest offloading the VPN and firewalling to the PIX’s and probably use a VPN accelerator card in the 535 to boost overall performance and reduce the overhead on the remote routers.
