If the local subnet is the same as the remote subnet, your pc will choose the one which is 'more important':
A directly connected network (the subnet youre in) has more priority than the network which is on the other side of the vpn tunnel. So your pc will look for the device your contacting in your own subnet...the packets will never be sent to the other side of the vpn tunnel.
