VPN to a 1720 router using the Cisco Client software

I can use the router to connect to the outside world.

It obtains it's IP address from the ISP.

When I try to connect using the IP address assigned by the ISP nothing happens. I am unable to see the internal network.

Does the router need any extra settings ?

I am usign the Cisco Secure VPN Client 1.1 DES
