I have a PIX 501, which I want to ping the inside interface. I am able to ping hosts on the network, but cannot ping the inside interface on the PIX.

Unlike Cisco IOS, PIX does not response ICMP request to the interfaces on the "far side" of the device ping the PIX. So it is normal.

Please configure your firewall with
icmp permit host inside
that's enough...
