I tested a vpn client version 4.8 with my pix, it works. But I still confuse one thing is this version4.8 is a vpn concentrator client software or it is a general vpn software for every vpn devices? I notice in cisco document there are some different version of vpn software like "vpn 1.1", "vpn 4.8", cisco security vpn", "cisco concentrator vpn client". Anybody please give me a simple instruction in those version, when, which I should use? Thanks.
1. VPN Client version 4.8 - latest version of Cisco VPN client software. Support Windows, Linux, Mac & Solaris platforms. Installed in client pc to allow client initiate & establish vpn connectio to VPN Server (VPN 3000 Concentrator, PIX or VPN Router). All security parameters are pre-defined. No setup intervention from user, except for Group name & password. Download is free.
2. VPN 1.1 - Cisco VPN Client software, but security parameters need to be specified manually. I think this chargable ($$)
You use VPN Client software 4.x or vpn 1.1 if you need to connect securely via IPsec VPN tunnel from unsecured network. e.g internet, back to your corporate office. Recommended to use v4.x as this is free, and predefined with security parameters. VPN 1.1 is for manual config, by experience users.
Cisco VPN v4.x is not general vpn software for all kind of VPN product/devices - it's Cisco proprietry.
The IPSec VPN tunnel need to be terminated at a VPN Server - a term that refers to either Cisco VPN 3000 Concentrator, PIX Firewall or VPN Router that is used to terminate the connection.
Login to the FXOS chassis manager.
