When was the first user authenticated VLAN introduced and by whom?

This is a question regarding the historical development of VLANs. I am trying to find out when the first switches with user authenticated VLANs were introduced, i.e., switches that would only allow a user access to certain VLANs based on the user's verified identity (using userid and password).

I would also like to know which were the first switches (Cisco or otherwise) to offer this feature?

Thanks for your help.
