Why need to re-enter username for chap authentication every time?

Whenever I need to establish an ISDN link, I have to re-enter username at both routers. I have tried this with different locations, different routers and models, but they are all the same. Please note that my bri interface is shutdown manually in normal situation and when I need ISDN link (as a backup for T1 link), I do a no shutdown to bri0. Could it be the cause?

The shut/no shut is not the cause; you

should not have to do this, once

configured. I would suggest you

configure the username on both ends,

confirm that the ISDN link can be

established, save the config, shut/

no shut the ISDN interface, and then

try to connect again. Ensure that you

are running recent code, too.
