Windows Remote Desktop Hanging

Hello

I have a 1841 integrated router as my firewall and I have pptp and gre ports open on my outbound traffic. But when I try to connect to a remote site using Windows Remote Desktop the session hangs before the login prompt. I permit any on both the inbound and outbound traffic and the problem is still there. If I replace the firewall with an ADSL modem it works fine. Any Ideas?

Do you have port forwarding setup for the machine that you are trying to get to? Sounds like you need a source static .......eq 3389 command on the router somewhere....

Re: Windows Remote Desktop Hanging

i've seen this symptom twice before, each time with different resolution

1. split routing (e.g., traffic goes in one ISP's line but returns on another's) on one of your routers (near or remote)

2. mtu set too low (anywhere along the pathway)

Re: Windows Remote Desktop Hanging

Hello,

I've seen the same problem MTU was set to low or there was a gre tunnel inside a VPN tunnel with no mtu path discovery enabled on an interface.

ip tcp path-mtu-discovery
