WINS lookups slower via 3002 VPN vs 3000 client access

Our VPN network access is supported by a 3015 with 3000 VPN software clients and 3002 hardware devices. WINS lookups via the software clients are much faster that through the 3002 hardware device. Tests have been performed on the same network configurations. Why would WINS performance be 8 to 9 times slower with access through the 3002? Are there any settings on the 3002 that need to be adjusted?

There are two things you could try. One is to play with the MTU. Lowering the MTU works wonders at times. Another thing you could look at is fragmentation.
