WIn9x machines cannot be domain members. With properly configured workgroup names though, they can seamlessly access domain resources.
With the wrong workgroup configured, you won't find any happiness. 9x doesn't support passing alternative credentials: in nt based OS, from the command line:
net use z: \\servername\sharename /user:domainname\username
would work. 9x's net use command does not support the /user switch to pass domain credentials.
So, you will need to get remote users to config their 9x boxes with the domain settings for them to use apps that rely on MS networking
