Provider edge router vlan double tagging configuration and limitation?
I need to configure a provider edge 2900 series router at Site A such that it preserves the customer vlans and acts as a layer 2 device and forwards the traffic across the provider network to Site B. The aim is to have Site B as a layer 2 extension of Site A.
I've been able to find that a provider edge switch connected to the customer side of provider router (2900) can double tag vlans and send it to the router. However, I want to know if this requirement can be met using the router alone. That is, without using a provider edge switch and connecting the PE router directly to customer's switch with just a regular trunk port configured on the customer's switch.
