1100 vs 350

We've started placing 1100s in our network. We've used 350s for some time and have noticed that the 1100s don't appear to have near the strength of the older 350s.

The clients report higher strength from further distances connected to the 350 then they do when connected to the 1100.

We set the radios up the same. Same WEP settings, same filters, etc...

Thanks.

We use 2 of the rubber antennas on the 350.

Is what we seeing expected or do we have something wrong.

You will want to make sure that the power output of the access point is set to the highest setting if you are having issues. There could be interference causing the problems with the signal strength as well. You could test this by swapping the 1100 with an existing 350.

Power is set to 100mW.

We have put the radios side beside and use two laptops one connected to each and start walking away. The lap top connected to the 350 stays connected up to 50ft further away. We then switch the laptops to connect to the other radio and retest and again the laptop connected to the 350 stays connected longer.

Both laptops are the same in hardware. They are using 350 access cards with firmware 5.20.17.

Is it the built in atennas? Are they just not as strong. When is cisco releasing 802.11g radios? Will the 1100s be the only model or will the new line?

Thanks.
