1230B upgrade to G?

I think I already know the answer to this - but I'll ask anyway. Is there any available method to upgrade older 1230B APs to G radios that are compatible with the 4400 WLCs? We've got 30 in use and that's big bucks to chunk them all in the trash and "forklift" to 1231Gs.

Hi Chris,

You can upgrade the 1230 if it has the proper radio as shown below;

The 1200 Series can be upgraded to LWAPP with the G Radio model listed below;

Solution Requirements

Migration from autonomous access point mode to lightweight mode is possible on these Cisco Aironet access point platforms:

All 1130AG access points

All 1240 AG access points

For all IOS-based 1200 series modular access points (**1200/1220 Cisco IOS Software Upgrade, 1210 and 1230 AP) platforms, it depends on the radio:

if 802.11G, MP21G and MP31G are supported

if 802.11A, RM21A and RM22A are supported

The 1200 series access points can be upgraded with any combination of supported radios: G only, A only, or both G and A.

From this good doc;

So you would need to install the Radio Upgrade kit to install the (AIR-MP21G-A-K9).

I'm not 100% sure that these kits are still available (but I think they are :)

Hope this helps!

Rob

Thank you very much! That didn't turn up in the doc search - didn't get the right terms LOL. I have the LWAPP upgrade doc, missed the note on the kit. Good deal. That'll make the boss happy.

Hi Chris,

You are most welcome :) It's always good to save the school some money that can go towards the Students :) This makes everyone happy.

Take care,

Rob
