4404 Guest Anchor Controller with 5508 Foreign Controller

I know that the 3600 series APs are not supported on the 4404 WLC.  However, would the following scenario be supported?

I would like to use the 4404 (software rel. 7.0) as a guest anchor with a 5508 (software release 7.2) as the foreign controller supporting series 3600 APs.  I ask because the APs do not need to join the guest anchor.

Thanks.

Marvin,

I see no reason why the configuration should not work. The guest control and data traffic are tunneled from the 5508 to the 4404 WLC, hence the 4404 WLC is not the parent controller for the 3600 APs.

I agree. This question has been rasied before and there was a matirx that showed the control and data planes (5246 / 5247) were not impacted by controller code. Your anchoring will work.

Hi ,

As mention before this should work since the APs will be joined to a 5508 WLC.

It's a consensus opinion that it will work so I will proceed this way.

Thank-you to all.

Better late than never.....Did you ever get this to work?  I'm having trouble with a similar situation.  Anchor controller is a 4404 running 7.0.230 and foreign controller is a 5508 running 7.3.101.  Just curious on actual feedback from a deployment.

THanks in advance! //art

Art,

Yes, I did get it to work with a 4404 Guest Anchor on 7.0 and a 2504 Foreign Controller on 7.2 with a 3600 AP in a lab scenario.  I expect the 5508 to work exactly the same.

Thanks.

Thank you.  Confirmed.

I did succesfully deploy a 4402 running 7.0.235-3 as a local anchor and multiple 5508's running 7.3.101 as well as a few 4402's running 7.0.235-3 as foreign controllers.  Multiple Mobility Groups.  No issues found.  Thanks again!  //art
