5508 controller and subnetting SSID's and wireless clients

Here is the setup. We have a series of 3560 switches acting as layer 3 devices. The campus is subnetted based on location and application. For instance, one building would be say, 10.13.x.x. The interfaces on the switches are configured for either data, voice, printing each having its own VLAN, so if a PC is attached to a port, it would be assigned an IP address through DHCP, for example 10.13.10.14 (10 being the data VLAN across campus). In another location, a PC would be assigned, for example, 10.26.10.30.

Attached to these switches are a group of 3500 series AP's, and are assigned IP's, through DHCP for example 10.13.60.20, or 10.26.60.34 (60 being the wifi vlan across campus). These AP's are under the control of a 5508 controller and broadcast the same two SSID's across campus. When a client attaches to a AP. it is assigned the same VLAN as defined for the interface for the SSID in the controller, for example 172.31.72.9 255.255.252. The client gets the IP address though the DHCP server. The creates a flat network across the campus with an address in the range 172.31.72.9 255.255.252.0.

What we want to be able to do is still broadcast the same SSID's, but instead of the client being assigned an IP address in the 172.x.x.x range, we would like the client to be assigned an IP address based on our layer 3 setup, as an example a wireless client would be assigned by our DHCP server, say 10.13.72.10, or 10.26.72.40 (72 being the wireless SSID across campus}

Thanks

Well you can do it two ways. If you want the wireless user vlan to reside on each location, the your access points needs to be setup for FlexConnect with local switching enabled. This will allow you to specify what WLAN's for the ap will map to what vlan at that location. The switch port would need to be a trunk port and the AP's management will need to be the native vlan on the trunk. If you want to still tunnel traffic back, you can create different dynamic interfaces on the WLC and use AP Groups to define what AP's will have what WLAN and vlan mapping.

No problem.. Just keep in mind that FlexConnect has some limitations compared to local mode so make sure you read the guide as it will explain the limitations.

Yes, Flexconnect does not support features like Video Stream, max 25AP per flexconnect ap group, etc. Read this design guide for more details

I prefered Local mode AP & using normal AP gorup to do what you want.
