you must enable "Aironet extension" on AP and client if the overlapping area between APs is less than 10%. Enabling this makes it clear for the client to decide the best AP. If too much area is overlapped, then it will be hard for client to decide which AP
it must choose; therefore it will hop frequently and lose packets.
I think this is irrespective of whether the wireless card belongs to Cisco or not
