Aironet 1310 & 1410 DC power requirements for solar

I am planning an outdoor network that will use solar panels to power 1310 & 1410 APs via power injectors. Does anyone know what the DC power requirements are for these radios. The 1310's will run on 12 - 40VDC or 48VDC and the 1410's need 48VDC but Cisco tech data does not provide the input current or power specs for the injectors. The power module that provides DC to the Power Injector LR for the 1410 is rated to deliver "up to 60W" but I can't believe it would be necessary to supply current of 1Amp or more to power these radios.

The Power Injector LR2 "AIR-PWRINJ-BLR2" delivered

with all our BR1310 states:

Output: 48V, 165mA

Input: 48V, 210mA

Thats max. 8W for the BR1310.

(AP1231G with the same Radio modul show 4.4W actually usage on our switches)

Did you look at the "Cisco Aironet Power Over Ethernet Application Note"?

Even the devices with 2 radios don't use more than 12W. (802.11af max. 15W)

Unfortunately no specs for the 1400 there too.

Did anyone ever get an answer to the power requirement for the 1410 bridge? I too would like to set them up with solar power.

Sorry guys - I should have replied sooner. I measured the current into the Power Injector (with 1410 attached) and it was 800mA @ 48VDC (38W). However, the 1410 case specifies an input DC current of 1.19A (57W). I presume this is a worst case load so I have specified 60W for the DC power source.

I also measured the current drawn by a 1310 and it was 165mA @ 48V (8W). The 1310 Power Injector specifies 210mA (10W) so I have used this as the supply spec.

I have set up a remote camera trailer on Solar utilising a 1410 bridge. had power consumption issues and so have much experience in this area. You can email me at adam.gray@bhpbilliton.com for a spreadsheet with the power consumption issues.

My 12v to 240v inverter was using about 1.1A @ 12volts and the 1410 was using 3.4A @ 12volts. So a total of 4.5A @ 12volts.

This is alot of power. My trailer complete required 13A @ 12volts or about 160VA. My calculation were for about 21 x 80w panels. And we get 8hrs of sunlight 350 days per year. I ended up going diesel. Still looking at wind as a future option.

I have the calculation for adding a laptop and stuff like that as well for diagnostic purposes, Batteries setups etc.

Your experience sounds interesting Adam. I'll email you for the calcs. The power you supplied to the 1410 (40.8W @ 12VDC) is close to the 38W @ 48VDC I measured so I guess the difference would be in the radio Tx power setting and Data rate at the time of measurement. Also, did you connect up 4 batteries in series to get the 48VDC needed for the 1410 Power Injector?

No I run the 1410 through a power inverter so I use the 240AC device supplied by Cisco. My total power includes the 1A @ 12V lost by the power inverter.

I did consider going 48vdc however I also need to power 24vac, 12vdc 7.5vdc at the remote trailer. By supplying 240ac I can also run any other equipment I go out there with. Quite often a laptop. Its good to know you don't have to rely on the laptop battery when in remote environments.

If you go this way alow 3.4a for the 1410 (40.8w)

And 1a for the power inverter (10w)

But once your are running the inverter you don't loose much efficiency when plugging other devices into it
