Greetings!
I have three aironet 1600's and a controller. I was planning on setting them up so one of the AP's is connected to the controller and the other two were just connected to power and were repeating. I had two questions:
1. If I just have the other two on power will they work or do they need to be connected to live data?
2. How would I set them up as repeaters for the main one, if that is possible?
Thanks!

First thing's first:
1. Verify if your AP is in LWAPP mode since there are two types of APs
one is autonomous and LWAPP
TIP: If the hostname is a MAC address then that is an LWAPP, if it is only ap> then that is in autonomous
2. You need to associate it first with the controller, you can either statically map it or through DHCP
Since you have just 3APs, you can just try hardcoding it through the AP:
Access its console and do the commands:
capwap ap ip address <IP> <SM>
capwap ap ip default-gateway <IP>
capwap ap ip controller address <IP of WLC>
Default creds: Cisco/Cisco
