ap1200 firmware upgrade issue

I currently have an ap1200 with software version 12.2(11)JA3 installed. I am attemtping to upgrade via http to 12.3(7)JA3. The issue I get is - when in http upgrade, I click "browse" and select the .tar file then select "uprade" There are 3 internet explorer popups, a timer, one stating the progress, and a 3rd that says "Do not close this window...softwre is updating." After about 5 seconds, this window goes to the internet explorer error message of "Cannot display webpage" The error message on the ap is "HTTP INSTALL Error: firmware-var file_pathname not found" and "HTTP: error reading in file c:\c1200-k9w7-tar.123-7.JA3[1].tar"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You are probably hitting this issue;

Note*** Software upgrades fail when you use the web-browser interface to install Cisco IOS Release 12.3(7)JA3 on 1200 series access points. The image size exceeds the access point's 4-MB restriction for software upgrades. Use TFTP to upgrade your access point to this release. For complete instructions on using TFTP to upgrade access point software, see the "Working with Software Images" section in the Cisco IOS Software Configuration Guide for Cisco Aironet Access Points. Rob,

thank you for the help. I am having one more issue. I'm following the instructions on doing the upgrade via FTP. I downloaded a free FTP server and installed it on the desktop. The desktop and the WAP are on the same subnet and can ping each other. I connected an extra pc to the same subent (all on a cisco 2960). All three devices can ping each other. I can access the ftp server from the extra PC, but when I run the

archive download-sw /overwrite /reload

ftp://test:test@10.170.1.244/IOS/c1200-k9w7-tar.123-7.JA3[1].tar I get the following error:

%Error opening grp://test:test@10.170.1.244/IOS/c1200-k9w7-tar.123-7.JA3[1].tar (Protocol Error)

Any ideas? Everyone has full control of the directory, the username "test" has full control - I can access it from the other PC, but the WAP gets that error message.
