AP1262N-A-K9 does not see 5508 controller

I just received three AP1262's from Cisco, to replaced my broken AP1262's which were under the limited life time warranty. I hooked them up to my network and they are receiving DHCP addresses but the AP's are not connecting to the controller(s). I have two 5508 controllers running software version 7.2.110.0. I noticed the AP's are running IOS 15.2(2)JB2. In the past, the AP1262 I have received have been running IOS 12.4(25e)JA1. According to Cisco's compatibility matrix, IOS 15.2(2)JB2 needs the controllers to have software version 7.4.110.0. Is there a way to downgrade the AP1262's from 15.2(2)JB2 to 12.4(25e)JA1, without a service contract tied to my Cisco account?

Re: AP1262N-A-K9 does not see 5508 controller

Hi Chris,

Since your AP came with Autonomous image, first of all you need to load a recovery image to it using the mode button.

first download an image like "ap3g1-rcvk9w8-tar.152-4.JA1.tar" onto your TFTP server & renamed it as "ap3g1-k9w7-tar.default". You need to configure your PC (running TFTP server) in the range of 10.0.0.x/8 when using this process. Then you can load this recovery image to your AP & then you can connect it to WLC environment to register.

Please follow the below post for step by step process.

Re: AP1262N-A-K9 does not see 5508 controller

Chris,

Set the AP to the recovery image and try again:

- disconnect the AP form the power.

- press and hold the mode button.

- connect the AP to the power. keep holding the mode button.

- Wait about 20 - 30 seconds until the LEDs of the AP become RED.

- Release the mode button.

Check now if the AP connects successfully.

If it did not, please provide the following:

1.  WLC:  sh sysinfo;

2.  AP:  sh version;

3.  AP:  sh inventory

#If the AP didn't join for some reason then yes you need an Recovery image.

#Try this: create an guest account or use non cco id, login and try to download the recovery image.

If you unable to download the code, Feel free to open TAC case, Cisco should let download 12.X AP code even without service contract. If it is denied by TAC then mention this thread.

Hi Saravanan,

Thanks for this information.  +5

But how can you open a TAC Case if you don't have a Service Contract?

Hi Leo

We've seen some cust opens ticket without contract and always surprised, maybe the cco id is still active. Also, Cisco SE got an authority to open case behalf of cust.

"Any vWLC image and AP's recv image or old AP's IOS image should be able to be downloaded by anyone using guest cred is the target of TAC without having them open a TAC case."

Thanks

I followed the steps suggested by Amjad. The AP just sits there with a steady green light. I decided to repeat the steps with the console cable plugged in, here are the results. I am also attaching the WLC and AP commands below.
