BVI Interface and native vlan

What is the corolation between the BVI interface and the native vlan. I have a bridge that is connected via a trunk port to an 871 router. The router has a couple vlans configured.

On the bridge, I have an ip address on BVI1 that is apart of the VLAN 222 subnet. But I can not ping the Vlan 222 SVI on the router.

When I change the BVI address to an address that belongs in VLAN1 I can ping.

Native VLAN on the AP has gotta be 1. If it's not 1 you won't be able to manage the AP.
