Catalyst 3850 & 1552 AP Power Issues

Hi All

I have a Cisco 3850 (running 03.02.02.SE software) connecting to a Cisco 1552E Access Point.

I'm running 90.2m CAT 5 Cable between the AP & the Switch.

The AP fails to power up & I get the following on the switch:

*Feb 12 04:16:24.277: %ILPOWER-7-DETECT: Interface Gi1/0/5: Power Device detected: IEEE PD

*Feb 12 04:16:24.702: %ILPOWER-5-POWER_GRANTED: Interface Gi1/0/5: Power granted

*Feb 12 04:16:24.932: %ILPOWER-5-IEEE_DISCONNECT: Interface Gi1/0/5: PD removed

*Feb 12 04:16:24.933: %ILPOWER-3-CONTROLLER_PORT_ERR: Controller port error, Interface Gi1/0/5: Power Controller reports power Imax error detected

*Feb 12 04:16:24.277: %ILPOWER-7-DETECT: Interface Gi1/0/5: Power Device detected: IEEE PD

*Feb 12 04:16:24.702: %ILPOWER-5-POWER_GRANTED: Interface Gi1/0/5: Power granted

*Feb 12 04:16:24.932: %ILPOWER-5-IEEE_DISCONNECT: Interface Gi1/0/5: PD removed

*Feb 12 04:16:24.933: %ILPOWER-3-CONTROLLER_PORT_ERR: Controller port error, Interface Gi1/0/5: Power Controller reports power Imax error detected

Is this the same bug that was previously described in these posts ?   Is there any workaround for this, since the commands used in those post is not available on the 3850 Switches.

Catalyst 3850 & 1552 AP Power Issues

Are you using PoE with power injector ???

These are the option:

Powering the Access Point

The access point can be powered by one of these methods:

PoE—56 VDC; for 1552E and 1552EU access points

Connecting a 1500 Series Power Injector

AC power

110 to 240 VAC for a 1552I access point—Connecting Streetlight AC Power

110 to 480 VAC for 1552E and 1552EU access points—Connecting Streetlight AC Power

120 VAC—Connecting an AC Power Cable to the Access Point

External 12 VDC

Connecting a DC Power Cable to the Access Point

POC—40 to 90 VAC (Quasi-AC); only for a 1552C and 1552CU access points

Connecting a Cable POC Power to the Access Point

Catalyst 3850 & 1552 AP Power Issues

Thanx  sandeepchoudhary21

I now see the customer is running is powering it from the POE switch (Which I suppose will not work)

They have ordered the AIR-PWRINJ1500-2= power injector, we just need to locate & install it.

Hi Guys, Getting the same

Hi Guys,

Getting the same error on an non Cisco IPT phone. We have lldp enabled globally on the switch

%ILPOWER-3-CONTROLLER_PORT_ERR: Controller port error, Interface Gi1/0/2: Power Controller reports power Imax error detected

The customer is saying that the phone will power up but when a call comes in the phone reboots. He has said he has tested different phones  that work on other ports on the port in question. He also said he plugged the phone directly to the switch and the same issue occurs.

I have ran the cable test and it is showing issues

Interface Speed Local pair Pair length        Remote pair Pair status
--------- ----- ---------- ------------------ ----------- --------------------
Gi1/0/2   100M  Pair A     0    +/- 1  meters Pair B      Normal
                Pair B     0    +/- 1  meters Pair A      Normal
                Pair C     36   +/- 1  meters N/A         Short
                Pair D     37   +/- 1  meters N/A         Short

Gi1/0/2   auto   on         3.0     Ieee PD             1     30.0

Are there any specific debug commands i can use to troubleshoot more?
