Cisco 1262AP

Hi all,

I have asked before, but still having a problem that I guess I am not getting.  I have a 1262.  I have two antenna.  One that is omni at 5Ghz for outside and another that is a 2.4Ghz omni.  I can connect to the 2.4Ghz inside the building but for some reason am not able to see the 5Ghz side.  Here is the config I have on the device.  As you can see, both radio interfaces are up and it is a very simple config....does anybody see what I am doing wrong?  Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Cisco 1262AP

I"m not trying to be offensive, it just helps me when I can see.  But if you had the antenna on the 5GHz A or B and didn't see anything, then it could be the antenna or the AP.

Re: Cisco 1262AP

Two questions

1.) what port do you have the antenna on?

2.) does your device support the DFS channels? Try moving to channel 36 and see if you can connect.

Re: Cisco 1262AP

The router does support DFS and it is on.  The 2.4Ghz is plugged in to the 2.4 side of the AP and the 5Ghz is plugged into the 5Ghz side of the AP.

Thanks,

Tracy

Re: Cisco 1262AP

For the antenna question I meant which port left right or center?

You say router, are you referring to the AP? Or are you trying to bridge?

Re: Cisco 1262AP

Ah...they are both in the first port at what I would consider the top. My apologies on adding "router", it's strictly an access point.

Re: Cisco 1262AP

Ok so both are on the A port of their respective sides.

Now the client that can't connect on the 5GHz, does it support DFS? Can you change the channel to something other than the DFS setting and see of the client will attach?

Stephen,

I tried this and still nothing.  I am begging to wonder if my extension cable is bad, though it tested good.

Thanks,

Tracy

Cisco 1262AP

it could be.  quick test there, but a 5GHz antenna on the port directly, and see if a client can connect.

Yes sir...quick test for sure...after the Seniors are out of the building or at least sitting and eating lunch.  It's about the only time they are not scootin around the building.  I am going in the morning to pull the antenna down and do just that.

Re: Cisco 1262AP

I have tried a few devices. My iPhone, Laptop running Win7, and a Nintendo DS. Nothing sees it so far. Unfortunately I have left the office for the day. I will give changing from DFS a try on Monday morning. I can see the 2.4 side no problems and it extends a little to the outside of the building, but getting nothing from the 5 side and the antenna is mounted outside on a mast. Thanks again for your help. I will let you know what I find Monday morning.

Bootup is good and I can see both the 2.4 Ghz and the 5.0 Ghz radio going up.  I have the following follow-up questions:

1.  What client/client's do you have that you need 5.0 Ghz?  Can you specify, for example, the wireless NIC card used?

2.  How far are you from the WAP when you try to search for the 5.0 GHz.

3.  I've read your description about your antenna.  Can you specify the 5.0 Ghz antenna model you are using?

Community Member

Cisco 1262AP

I see them both come up every time as well.

1.  No specific client.  The intention of the 5Ghz side is to spray signal to a park so citizens will have access to the Internet while they are there with their children.  I am using my iPhone to try and find the signal.

2.  I have tried it at different places, but usually 3 to 4 hundred feet away from the building the atenna is mounted on.  The antenna is mouted at a high point on the building.

3.  The antenna is a AIR-ANT5160V-R, 5GHz, 6DBi.  I have it set for best range in the IOS.  It is Omnidirectional antenna with RP-TNC.

Thanks,

Tracy

So, what I haven't said is that the extension cable I am using is 200ft.  From what I am reading that could/does equate to 60% decrease in signal and on a 5GHz antenna, that doesn't have the best range already, which will more than likely cause signal to be minimal or next to nothing.  Does that sound right?
