Client not associating to closest AP bringing bad connectivity

Hello,

We have installed 40 AP in our building, thus using Cisco 1010/1020 Ligthweight AP and 4400-50 series Contollers.

In some places, the laptop connect sometimes to bad signal AP instead of the one beeing vary close, thus bringing vary bad connectivity.

Any Ideas or Advice to customize the system to solve this issues?

Thanks.

Gael

Hi

What connection utility are you using?

Mobility is not controled by the network but by the NIC of the host. This is were you need to look.

Try to use WLAN Card supplicants instead of the default Microsoft supplicants.. or you can either try to use Meetinghouse Utility client or Juniper Client (Funk Odyssey Client)

Hi thanks for the info,

The connection utility change for most of the people (its a open Wifi)

Actually I could improve by 2 ways.

1. As you said, the client -> when possible I made sure to have the last driver.

2. Frequency control -> I used Airmagnet, it helped a lot to see where conflict could occur.

Thanks

Check the driver versions. Intel cards (Centrino) are horrid about this. I've had sitations where a PC was 5 feet from an AP and it would want to associate with one on a different floor.
