i have aironet 1200. now i want to configure the multiple vlan and i want to assing multiple SSID to same vlan will it be possible...?
and can i configure the multiple dhcp scope on Aironet for various VLAN so devices which connected to the perticular vlan on aironet can obtain the appropriate IP address from that VLAN dhcp server...?
if i can have mutliple SSID per VLAN then can i put one DHCP server in that VLAN so each and every host in that vlan can obtain ip from that DHCP server...
scott one more que... AP are layer2 or layer3 device or they can provide both the functionality... and what is the logic behind creating subinterface after assinging the VLAN to the radio interface... is it for Intervlan kind of things?
I'm pretty sure that the DHCP services available form th AP will only serve one scope/network/subnetwork.
If you used more than one SSID and use different address blocks, I'm pretty sure the DHCP service will only serve addresses to the address block used on the Native VLAN.
I suppose if each SSID used a different auth/auth, but all clients existed in the same address block, it should(?) work (never tried it, can't say for sure).
Cisco APs have no layer three functonality. They are more like Layer One/Two devices (shared bandwidth like a hub, VLAN & filtering functionality like a switch).
Using subinterfaces makes the AP more "wired-like" for easier integration into the overall network (think "SWAN" / Unified Networking).
Sub-interfaces versus multiple SSIDs per VLAN is more secure and easier to organize and manage. It's dot1q (a standard protocol)and should be universal to any manufacturer that properly supports dot1q.
I have two VLAN's on my wireless ap's. One is our main network and one is a "guest" network. I wanted no access between the two since the guest is unsecure. So I dropped in a linux box for DHCP on the guest subnet. Works fine for me. I just had to put the DHCP server in the same vlan as the guest network.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

This is the start of a display filter cross reference between Wireshark and OmniPeek.
The 1st installment is a table of advanced filters. More filters will be added as time allows.
