Difference between AP Operational Status and Registered Controller

When reviewing the AP Details page in Prime there are two fields I'm not sure what they mean specifically:

1) Operational Status - Registered

2) Registered Controller - Not Associated

Any clarity or document references would be greatly appreciated.

Difference between AP Operational Status and Registered Controll

#1 will tell you if the AP is registered to a controller or not.

#2 will tell you which controller the AP is registered to.

So it's obvious that if you have an AP that went offline, WCS/NCS/CPI will show you have "Not Associated" in #2 but has been registered some time before.

Thanks Leo.

To get into the weeds some...is there a technical difference between "registered" vs "associated"? Were these specific terms chosen relative to 802.11 or purely Cisco choice.

What are the impacts of being registered vs but not associated?

Thanks you.

You are seeing this behaviour when you are looking at WCS/NCS/CPI?  If this is the case, then this is Cisco's "terms".

In the list of APs, if you get "registered" but doesn't show the controller IP address then this is because the AP is "off the air".

This is in CPI viewing the AP Details tab.

The only valid values for Operational Status are Registered/Not Registered.

The only valid values for Registered Controller are Associated/Not Associated

The IP address is not a valid input.

It is still unclear to me what the specific and fuctional differences and impacts are between Operational Status and

Registered Controller? How do the values of each impact the client device?

Thank You.

If you get "Registered" but doesn't have the IP address of the controller, then the AP is not working.
