EAP if not logged into domain

So if someone is not logged into their domain, and they are just using a local account on a laptop, what happens when they try to get on an 802.1x wlan? Does it prompt them for user/pass?

the first time you try to join a WLAN, it will prompt you to input username/password, then the username/password will be cached locally by default untill you delete the WLAN profile and recreate it in WIN XP
