Hi all

I have a 1240 access point with an aerial plugged into the right bnc connector, the aerial is one of the omni directional tube devices that hangs off the ceiling.

My question is, how should this be set up on the ap, does it need to be in diversity mode or not as its only plugged into one side ?

please help

Carl

Hi Carl,

Diversity mode is only used with "two" Antennas. With one Antenna just use the Right hand "Primary" connector.

Hope this helps!

Rob

hi there, so should I change this in the config ?

Hi Carl,

Yes, this should be changed when only one antenna is used :)

Here are the commands to reset the Antenna settings to default,diversity (left-right) etc;

antenna

Use the antenna configuration interface command to configure the radio receive or transmit antenna settings. Use the no form of this command to reset the receive antenna to defaults.

[no] antenna {receive | transmit} {diversity | left | right}

Syntax Description

receive

Specifies the antenna that the access uses to receive radio signals

transmit

Specifies the antenna that the access uses to transmit radio signals

diversity

Specifies the antenna with the best signal

left

Specifies the left antenna

right

Specifies the right antenna

Defaults

The default antenna configuration is diversity

Examples

This example shows how to specify the right receive antenna option:

AP(config-if)# antenna receive right

Hope this helps!

If you are using the omni that is designed to hang down from a ceiling, then you are using the wrong antenna for outside. That antenna can get water inside and cause you problems. You need to use the omni that is designed to be installed outside. It has the cable coming straight out of the bottom of the antenna. If yours has the cable coming out of the side of the aluminum then it is the wrong one for outdoor.

AIR-ANT2506 is for outdoor.

AIR-ANT1728 is for indoor.
