Guest Anchor 5508 Control Path Down

Hello,

I am having an issue with getting mobility to form between a 2504 and a 5508 controller.  Both WLCs are running 7.4.110.0 code.  The 5508 is the guest anchor.

The 5508 has a management interface on the inside network and the guest traffic is on the DMZ.  On the management interface, that network also hosts another wireless controller for that site.  With the foreign anchor, which is at a remote site, the mobility group is coming up with the non guest anchor, but not the guest anchor.  I only mention this because all of the controller control traffic is passing L3 to one controller, but is not working on the other.  This was set up just to verify that the L3 traffic was reaching that network.

The controller (XYZ) that is in the same network as the guest anchor is a 2104 running 7.0.235.0.

It's looks like your mobility member configuration is wrong.

As per the below line "ec:e1:a9:54:1e:20" WLC should be in XYZ mobility domain.

ec:e1:a9:54:1e:20  10.44.200.10     XYZ                              0.0.0.0          Up

But you have configured it for different mobility domain name in the first controller.

ec:e1:a9:54:1e:20  10.44.200.10     ABC                                 0.0.0.0          Control Path Down

Please check the mobility members configuration again & let us know.

I made some modifications because I believe I messed it up when sanitizing it.

There are three controllers

XYZ and GUEST are L2 adjacent.

ABC is across a WAN link.

ABC needs to connect to GUEST.

XYZ and ABC are connected only to show that the L3 path is working correctly.

Here is a quick diagram to help grasp the situation.

Hi Jacob,

Thanks for the diagram posted, it really helped to understand what you are trying to do. If you simply want guest anchoring ABC to GUEST, simply configure the mobility group members as follows (I think you alreday done that).

config mobility group domain GUEST

config mobility group member add ec:e1:a9:54:1e:20  10.44.200.10     ABC

config mobility group domain ABC

config mobility group member add bc:16:65:f8:68:60  10.0.200.100     GUEST

If mobility tunnels not coming up you  have to check UDP port 16666 & EoIP reachability between your two controllers. Do the following "mping" & "eping" testing from remote controller (mobility domain configured with ABC)

(WLC-ABC) >mping 10.0.200.100

(WLC-ABC) >eping 10.0.200.100

if both succuess your mobility tunnel should come up. If mping fail, then udp 16666 is blocked somewerhe your Guest WLC &  remote WLC. If  eping fails then EoIP is get blocked somewhere Guest WLC & remote.

eping is successful but mping fails.

Like I said, ABC can eping and mping XYZ but not GUEST.

GUEST is connected to the same switch as XYZ with the same VLAN.  I am not what could possibly be blocking that traffic layer 2.

Does these two controllers having same virtual IP address ? Makesure it is the case.

Also post "show sysinfo" output of both Guest & ABC controllers just to verify MAC address information again.
