How do I optimize for distance w/ interference

My AP1220B with a 15dbi omni is at 160' over flat farmland. I can "see" at least three other similar strength competitors on channels 1, 6 & 11 with NetStumbler.

The best frequency for me appears to be channel 1 because SNR is the least from the other radios.

Sometimes my clients (and repeaters) can hit the AP with better than 50% signal strength at 3-4 miles out.

Most of the time they will not even associate.

Should I mess with RTS? Other settings? What else?

THX

Use this link before messing up the RTS parameters
