How to activate mesh software in WLC2504

Hi,

I have two Wireless LAN Controllers 2504 and 8 APs 3502e. The WLCs are running software version 7.0.116.0. The problem is that I don't have the mesh option to configure indoor mesh inside the controller. In chapter 9 of Wireless LAN Controller Configuration Guide, Release 7.0.116.0 says that I have to go to Wireless Menu and select the AP. When I am inside the AP general page, the guide says I have to go to the Mesh tab, but that tab doesn't appear in the controller GUI. Do I have to use another image in the controller? Or do you have to use an special mesh code or something like that? Because in the download page of the controller it only appears the 7.0.116.0, two more new versions but there is nothing about mesh image.

Thanks,

Guido.

I didn't think they were supported. The 7.x guide only mentions the 1130 and 1242 AP's.

Mesh 11n Support in 7.0.116.0

With the 7.0.116.0 release, the mesh functionality is added in the Cisco Aironet 1040, 1140, 1250, 1260, 1520, and 3500 series indoor access points. The mesh backhaul radio supports the 802.11n data rate. When operating in mesh mode, their mesh backhaul will support both the 802.11a and 802.11n data ratet

Okay... well since it is supported, you need to set the ap in bridge mode before you get the option for mesh.  Then follow this guide:

Thanks Scott. What I didn't do was seting the AP in bridge mode. Now the tab is shown and the APs are working in mesh mode.

Thanks for your help.

Guido,

I didn't think it was supported because I initially tried testing with an 1140 and 1252, but it was on 7.0.98.0. I'm running 7.0.220.0 and just tried it also and it worked.

This ended up being a helpful post. Three years after the fact I am setting up a little Cisco wireless lab/home network with three 1142 APs and a 4402 controller using 7.0.220.0 controller software. I couldn't figure out how to get the "Mesh" tab to show up and your post pointed me in the right direction.

Thanks!
