Hi! I´d like to install a WLAN in a building with several floors. At each floor I want to Install one Aironet 1200 AP. Does every AP need a other channel or must I use the same channel on each AP for roaming?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you,

Rouven

You definitely do not want to use the same channels for all the APs especially if they are in close proximity.

Normally you would use the 3 non overlapping channels 1, 6, & 11 depending on the floor.

It is common to see radio bleed over in a steel reinforced concrete buildings

2 floors above or below (This can cause interference, but may not provide enough signal strength to ensure good connectivity).

Has anyone performed a Site Survey to verify coverage and proper AP placement?

A Site Survey by a qualified company or attending the Aironet SIte Survey class will help. Also, if you are not the only tenant in the building or have other buildings within 100 feet, you will definitely want to scan for existing networks with a wireless sniffer (Kismet work well).

A proper Site survey will save you a lot of headaches in the future.
