As far as i know that is correct the "G" radio ia capped at 30mw.
My best confirmation of this is when using a 1242 with different power settings for "B" with the Basic/required set to one of the "B" data rates i usually need to disable 54 and 48 due to the number of retries because of the signal RSSI/SNR difference between hte beacon/header and the data packet in hte 802.11 frame. depending on hte power setting disparity the difference can be 5db or more. Even with the better encoding with "G" it is usually enough to cause the the firat packets sent at the higher data rate to fail and require retransmission at the next lowwer data rate,
Back in the B only days I had one customer that got better throughput at 5.5 than 11 due to the environment.
