LWAPP 1242 POE

Hi everyone. I hope somebody can clarify this for me. We are installing LWAPP 1242 APs and we are having problems powering the APs on our 6500 switches. The AP powers up but the radio is disabled. We are using 6348-45V and 6148-45V POE blades.

Our 1210 APs work on these but not the 1242s. Do the 1242s require 802.3af? When configuring the APs on the WLC there is a check box for pre-standard power. Checking or unchecking this box did not change anything.

Hi Joel,

1242 AP needs cisco higher-power switches capable of supporting 13W or greater for inline power and radios to be up.

6348-45V and 6148-45V provides 7W maximum power per port. If you card model is WS-X6148V-GE-TX it can provide upto 15W provided it is upgraded with WS-F6K-GE48-AF= daughter card which is Fielf Upgradeable.

You can look at the data sheet for different line cards for 6500 chassis
