Max Distance difference between directional and omni antennas

If we have a max distance of 10Km, for a directional it would surely mean between devices. For an omni, does it mean between devices or that includes the diameter of each omni devices?

Re: Max Distance difference between directional and omni antenna

If you’re talking about the distance parameter, this is the distance between the center device and the farthest device communication to the center device.

Output power - cable loss + transmiter antenna gain - free space loss + receiver antenna gain - cable loss - receiver sensitivity (all in dBm) needs to equal 20dB or more.

Make Free Space Loss the variable (fill in all the others and see what's left), then use this formula in Excel:

[32.4+(20*LOG(2484))+(20*LOG(d))] where d is the distance in kilometers.
