Port configuration question (APs and VoIP)

Hi,

We have Cisco 5508 controller and 1130 LAPs (in h-reap mode). We are deploying wireless VoIP phones in the network and the question is,

do I have to configure the following line on the switchports the APs are connected to?

switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

switchport trunk native vlan 333

switchport mode trunk

switchport voice vlan 50

srr-queue bandwidth share 10 10 60 20

priority-queue out

mls qos trust dscp

auto qos voip trust

Thanks,

Petri

Re: Port configuration question (APs and VoIP)

Hi,

I'm sorry but I totally differ from Rob's reply.

The command "switchport voice vlan" only works for wired phones.

Sine the wireless traffic is all capwap encapsulated, a switch will make no difference about phone traffic.

How to have a voice vlan => Simply have a separate SSID that will link to a voice-specific vlan

How to have Qos=> Follow the document pasted by Rob and also the config guide of WLC. Basically, have the ssid as platinum qos, wmm enabled and map to CoS 6 and you should be good to go.

Hi Petri,

Yes, you will need the Voice vlan config

Have a look at this good design "White Paper";

Re: Port configuration question (APs and VoIP)

Switch port configurations for LWAP/CAPWAP is basically an access port.

switchport access vlan

switchport mode access

spanning-tree portfast

Re: Port configuration question (APs and VoIP)

Hi,

In this case the APs are in h-reap mode, so that's why ports are trunk. My first thought was, that the line is not needed, so I'll have to trust Nicolas on this one. Thank you for the answers.

Petri
