Power over Ethernet (3500-24PWR) for Ap1200 with 11a and 11b

Hi,

I read about the AP1200 power utilization

only 11a module = 8W

only 11b module = 6W

11a &11b module= 11w

The new 3550-24 PWR units data sheet does mention it provides 15W per port.

The older 3500-24 PWR units data sheet does not have nay per port ratings.

It just sas that its power utilization is 325W with an example of IP phoines beeing connected on all the 24 ports.

1)Does this mean it can provide 13.5 W on each port ?

(so AP1200 with both modultes can, 11W<13.5W)

OR

2) Can the AP1200 with a&b modules work on a 3500-24 PWR if only few ports are used. for example only 2 AP1200 are connected ?

I have connected AP1200 on a 3500-24PWR unit for testing purposes.

The APs seem to be working fine. I have not seen any errors on the APs or the Ports.

Currently there are no users connecting to the 11a .

3) Will Switch or the AP fail when ther is traffic on the 11a modules( since they will draw more power) ?

4) Will it damage the Power supply of the 3524PWR unit. ?

(the units have been working fine for a month)

Thanks

The AP should work fine when using both 11a and 11b. It will use 11w of power when using both these modes. It will use only 8w in 11a mode and only 6w in 11b mode.

Thanks Lisa.

So, Ap1200 with 11a and 11b would work alright with Catalyst 3500-24 port PWR ( inline power) switches ?
