Windows should be able to manage your PC Cards without Cardware software. Usually that is for DOS use. I would contact Compaq first and see what they recommend. Do any other pc cards work? You might have better luck on a more PnP OS like WIN 2K or even Win 98.
On my 500s using NT4.0, I have to use IRQ 9 and I/O 400. nothing else will work, but this combination works everytime for me. you might also try it on the EVO devices.
