QUERY ON WLC 5508 HA SOLUTION V7.5

Hi,

I'm working on a solution to Implement WLC HA v7.5 and have been reading the WLC Config guide v7.5 but looking at the sections within the respetive chapters relating to LAG Config restrictions and HA Config restrictions, I'm not entirely sure that HA is supported with LAG disabled, Can someone clarify please?

URL :

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/7.5/config_guide/b_cg75.pdf.

Chapter 111, Configuring High Availability, Pg 773 states the following in relation to disabling LAG:

• HA is not supported if LAG is disabled for controllers that have the following configurations:

o Primary and backup ports configured for management or dynamic interfaces.

   o Multiple AP managers configured.

And also,

Chapter 34, Link Aggregation, Pg 323 states:

• When you disable LAG, the management, static AP-manager, and dynamic interfaces are moved to port 1.

• When you disable LAG, you must configure primary and secondary ports for all interfaces.

• When you disable LAG, you must assign an AP-manager interface to each port on the controller. Otherwise, access points are unable to join.

What does this mean? Does it categorically mean that HA is NOT supported if LAG IS disabled?

You should keep it simple and best practice. Keep lag enabled even if you are only going to use one port on the wlc. When you disable lag, then that is when the configuration becomes tricky and that's why it's not supported.

Here is a link to help you understand lag vs not to lag. It's not just an HA thing, but you need to understand the difference.
