question concerning module

I know this is a silly question, but is the WiSM module and the "Wireless LAN Controller" the same thing, or are they different?

Re: question concerning module

Hi John,

There is no such thing as a silly question :)

The WLC is a Stand-Alone (Rack Mounted) version and the WISM is bascally a WLC in the form of a Blade or Module that installs in a 6500 Series Chassis.

WLC (with video):

WISM

Hope this helps!

Re: question concerning module

Hi John,

In addition to Rob's post one WISM blade has 2 integrated WLCs and it scales to 300 lightweight access points per module with support for 10,000+ wireless client devices.

Another small difference is individual WLC can be configured as LAG OR single ports can also be used to connect to the network but WISM always connect to the 6500 chassis via backplane and always enabled for LAG by which I means all 4 ports are bundled together.

To get more details about WISM blade have a look at the data sheet
