quick 'N' question

i have 400 1242AG cisco access points, they can run 2.4 and/or 5ghz. im guessing due to the dual radio nature of MIMO on N that the 1242ags will not in any way support the completed 'n' draft spec.

Correct, due to the dual (or triple) radio nature of 802.11n, 1242 will not be 802.11n...

I suspected as such as two complete separate supplies are needed in the chain.

would moving to 'n' require gigabit switches ?

Haha! 1242 is a nice AP though huhu...

And yes, moving to 802.11n would imply making sure that the infrastructure behind could follow (or "benefit"), which means Gig switches... if you can afford the E series (3560E, 3750E) are also powerful enough to PoE a 1252 (802.11n, with its multiple radios, means that a normal switch is not powerful enough to PoE a 802.11n AP)...
